The Cluster, in collaboration with the National Reference Center, will update the Catalog of specializations in the nautical field of the professional family of Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance. It will also enhance the existing training offer in the sector by creating 24 new specialized programs and modifying 6 current ones
Balearic Marine Cluster (BMC) has been contracted by SOIB to update the Catalog of specializations in the nautical field of the professional family of Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance, under its supervision. This process will address a long-standing demand in the sector, as it will offer a higher degree of specialization to future workers in the various areas of the nautical industry in the Balearic Islands.
According to Toni Salom, president of BMC, “the fact that we have been given this opportunity is great news for showcasing the nautical sector of the Balearic Islands, which I would like to point out is gaining importance in the GDP of our islands year after year, as it generates more and more stable, high-quality jobs. We are aware that this is a recurring demand from companies. The lack of preparation and training in the sector is a gap that Balearic Marine Cluster aims to address. I would like to thank SOIB, which recognizes the need to offer the training that the sector demands, for launching this initiative in collaboration with the CRN and the Cluster. We will now carry it out with the help of our members and the companies in the sector on our islands, and we hope to soon expand the range of training opportunities in more specialized areas. This will allow companies in the sector to benefit from a better-trained workforce, which will have a very positive impact on the future development of these businesses.”
For his part, Pedro Suasi, manager of the Cluster, noted that “to carry out this work, we need the commitment of as many companies as possible. The outdated nature of training has been one of the most frequent complaints from the sector. Now it’s time to work and change this situation. From Balearic Marine Cluster, we encourage any company interested in participating to contact us.”
Through the update of existing specialized programs, the aim is to incorporate the use of new materials and technologies in training, such as carbon fiber, numerical cutting, or hydraulics in mobile rigging systems.
On the other hand, among the specialized programs to be created, those focused on electromechanics, the use of new components, the integration of computer systems and smart technology in nautical applications, electric propulsion, and the improvement of satellite communication systems like Starlink stand out.
Balearic Marine Cluster will be able to develop this process thanks to a public contract awarded within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan for the Spanish Economy, managed through SOIB. The ultimate goal is to create 30 models of specialized nautical training programs that SOIB will register and/or modify in the SEPE Catalog of Specialized Training Programs.
