The Balearic Port Authority commits to including Balearic Marine Cluster in the joint drafting of the basic project for the new naval repair and maintenance area
Balearic Marine Cluster has held a working meeting today with the Balearic Port Authority (APB) with the aim of exchanging information on the reorganisation process of the Port of Palma and analysing its implications for the industrial nautical sector.
The meeting was attended by Javier Sanz, President of the APB; Toni Ginard, Director of the APB; and Laura Molano, Head of Corporate Governance, Communication and CSR at the APB, together with the President of Balearic Marine Cluster, Guillermo García, and representatives of the industrial nautical sector.
During the meeting, Balearic Marine Cluster submitted to the Port Authority a set of twelve questions, structured into three key areas: planning, operations and safety, and social and economic impact, with the aim of obtaining an initial understanding of how the reorganisation process is being approached.
The Balearic Port Authority provided responses to the issues raised, noting that the project is still at a very early stage and that certain aspects will need to be defined and specified in later phases of the process. In this context, the APB requested the sector’s trust and expressed its commitment to working in a coordinated manner with Balearic Marine Cluster from this point onwards.
Balearic Marine Cluster values this commitment positively and underlines that, following this meeting, the cluster will assume the role of interlocutor for the industrial nautical sector, with the objective of guaranteeing current operations and the long-term future of the sector in an increasingly competitive environment.
“We have been asked for a vote of confidence, as the project is at a very early stage, and we have been assured that we will be part of the planning of the new repair and maintenance area”, states Pedro Suasi, Manager of BMC.
As part of this process of follow-up and transparency, Balearic Marine Cluster will inform all companies in the sector interested in this matter through an information session to be held on 18 February at the Chamber of Commerce of Mallorca, during which the information available following the meeting with the Port Authority will be shared. Details of this session will be communicated in the coming days.
“This meeting has served to confirm that the Port Authority’s plans for the reorganisation of the Port of Palma are aligned with BMC’s interests in ensuring the competitiveness of the nautical sector, employment, and the creation of wealth and opportunities for our citizens”, says Guillermo García, President of Balearic Marine Cluster.
The organisation reaffirms its commitment to promoting constructive dialogue between the sector and public authorities, contributing to the evolution of the Port of Palma in a way that is compatible with the maintenance and development of industrial nautical activity.
