Balearic Marine Cluster to Apply for Regional Grants to Boost Innovation and Digitalization in the Nautical Sector

Balearic Marine Cluster is encouraging SMEs in the Balearic nautical sector to apply for innovation and digital transformation grants offered by the regional government. The cluster is also offering its members a new support service for managing and submitting applications, including personalized guidance.

The cluster itself will be applying for the regional aid programme aimed at boosting innovation and digitalization among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), recently reactivated by the regional government and backed by a fund of €3.7 million.

The grant programme is part of the Regional Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization (RIS3) for the Balearic Islands for the 2021–2027 period, and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Annual funding allocations are as follows:

  • 2025: €899,000
  • 2026: €1,242,000
  • 2027: €1,237,000
  • 2028: €322,000

Pedro Suasi, Managing Director of Balearic Marine Cluster, highlighted the importance of these grants following a meeting held at Parc Bit with the Vice President and Minister for Economy, Finance and Innovation, Antoni Costa, and the Director General of Innovation and Digital Transformation, Sebastián González:

“Balearic Marine Cluster will inform all our member companies about these grants and offer them the option to apply through our newly launched aid management service in 2025.”

“As a cluster, our goal is to continue strengthening the nautical sector through digitalization, innovation, and training. We believe these types of grants can help our sector become more competitive. That’s why we’re making ourselves available to help companies apply for this and other funding opportunities. We will also apply directly and manage the process on behalf of companies that request it.”

In 2025, Balearic Marine Cluster launched a new technical office service dedicated to grant application and management for member companies. In the first quarter alone, it has already processed more than 10 applications, securing over €150,000 in funding. Applications have included grants for internationalization, industrial modernization, and support for self-employed professionals.

The meeting also included participation—either in person or remotely—from several Balearic clusters and organizations: the biotechnology and biomedical cluster, the international tourism technology cluster, the ecological transition cluster, the educational innovation cluster, the Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands (CAEB), the Chambers of Commerce of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, the Official College of Industrial Engineers, the Official College of Computer Engineers, and the Balearic Association of Software, Internet and New Technologies Companies.
