Students will begin their training at the S’Algar Training Center and will later complete internships at nautical companies across the Balearic Islands

Once again, Balearic Marine Cluster is promoting professional certification programs in the nautical sector by launching four training certifications in 2025 under the “SOIB Dual Training in Strategic and Hard-to-Fill Sectors” initiative. Nearly 100 students from the Balearic Islands are expected to attend classes at the S’Algar Training Center and gain hands-on experience at local companies, preparing them for careers in one of the Islands’ most strategic sectors.

In collaboration with the S’Algar Training Center, Balearic Marine Cluster has launched the following Dual Training Programs:

  • Level 1 Professional Certificate in Maintenance of Systems (Mechanical and Electrical)
  • Level 1 Professional Certificate in Surface Maintenance and Marine Carpentry
  • Level 2 Professional Certificate in Rigging and Sailmaking
  • Level 2 Professional Certificate in Marine Painting

Pedro Suasi, Manager of Balearic Marine Cluster, stated: “At BMC, we are aware that one of the main challenges facing the nautical industry is the shortage of qualified personnel. That’s why one of our key objectives is to help solve this issue, while also raising awareness among young people in our islands about the career opportunities this sector can offer them.”

“Balearic Marine Cluster works closely with institutions, organizations, and businesses to ensure comprehensive coverage of the entire nautical value chain. Thanks to the training programs we promote, students join the workforce better prepared,” he added.

Goal: Expanding certification programs

Balearic Marine Cluster aims to continue expanding its training offering in order to cover all relevant areas in the “Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance” professional family.

Companies participating in the Dual Training Program receive 100% coverage of wage costs equivalent to the minimum wage (SMI), proportional to the students’ working hours. For level 2 certificates, companies may receive up to a 25% increase if their collective agreement exceeds the SMI, and up to 10% for level 1 certificates.

In addition, the subsidy covers 100% of Social Security contributions and includes a monthly €60 compensation per student for tutorship over the 12-month dual training contract.

BMC is also committed to helping students secure permanent jobs—either in the same company where they trained or elsewhere in the nautical industry—once their contracts conclude.
