A total of 25 students have completed the first part of this Dual FP that Balearic Marine Cluster organizes together with the S’Algar educational center and in collaboration with the SOIB
Balearic Marine Cluster (BMC) together with the s’Algar educational center and in collaboration with the SOIB, has launched this 2024 the third edition of the Dual Training Course in repair and maintenance operations in the nautical sector. A total of 25 students have participated in this edition, who have completed their theoretical classes this July.
During the training, the students have learned knowledge in rigging, sailmaking, mechanics and naval electronics, which they will soon be able to put to the test in the best companies in the nautical sector in the Balearic Islands. “More and more young people are betting on growing professionally in the nautical sector. At Balearic Marine Cluster we are very aware of the needs of our youth and that is why we offer them the best possible options so that they can access the world of work through a sector that is increasingly important in the economy of the Balearic Islands”, said the manager of Balearic Marine Cluster, Pedro Suasi.
The total content of the training consists of a 636-hour course divided as follows: 350 hours of auxiliary maintenance operations of systems and equipment of sports and recreational vessels, 100 hours of nautical English, 40 hours of learning how to clean sports and recreational vessels, 36 hours of training in personal skills and abilities for employment, 20 hours of learning effective job search techniques, 45 hours of ergonomics, based on the analysis of risk factors, 10 hours focused on the approach to the work environment in a professional sector and 35 hours of training in occupational risk prevention.
Once students complete this Dual Vocational Training, they receive a Professional Certificate, which is an instrument that accredits, in the workplace, the set of professional skills that a person must have to carry out a work activity identified in the job market. These certificates are issued by the SEPE and the competent bodies of the Autonomous Communities and are official and valid throughout the national territory.
In the case of this repair and maintenance course, it is a level 1 certificate, for which no previous studies are required to be able to do it. As it is a dual FP, the training is divided into a practical and a theoretical part, with a joint duration of one year, during which the student has an employment contract and receives financial remuneration, which does not entail a cost for the company since the calls fully cover it for dual training subsidies for strategic sectors. Thus, students who have started this Dual training have an employment contract during the training period and in the company (12 months) with financial remuneration, both during the training period and during the work period in the company.
Training in the nautical sector
The Balearic Islands are home to a nautical business network that is desirable for other coastal destinations, representing a high percentage of the Balearic GDP and generating more than 4,000 jobs. Despite this, this sector is not exempt from the widespread problem of the lack of qualified personnel, which together with the lack of knowledge by the population, translates into a greater difficulty in attracting new workers.
The Balearic Marine Cluster has participated for the third consecutive year in the SOIB call for “Dual Training for Strategic Sectors”, which provides professional certificates that combine training and paid work in companies classified as strategic. Balearic Marine Cluster makes available to anyone interested in nautical training a portal that collects all the nautical training offers on the islands. https://balearicmarine.org/es/education
The four certificates that make up the training project promoted by BMC in Painting, Carpentry, Fiber and Composites and Auxiliary Operations, which includes mechanics and electronics, rigging and sailmaking and which are presented in the SOIB Dual Training Program in Strategic Sectors 2022-2026, have a duration of twelve months. The dual training project promoted by Balearic Marine Cluster has generated 88 new jobs in the nautical sector in the 2023-2024 academic year.
