Balearic Marine Cluster takes part in the conference “Nautical Industry: A Profession of the Future”, highlighting the need to attract, train, and retain talent to ensure the future of the sector.
Balearic Marine Cluster takes part in the conference organised by the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB), Astilleros de Mallorca, and Diario de Mallorca.
The event brings together institutional representatives, training centers, and companies from the sector with the aim of analysing training needs, the most in-demand professional profiles, and the challenges of talent management within the Balearic nautical industry.
Moderated by journalist Mar Ferragut, the conference features two round tables. In the first one, “Overview of Employment in the Nautical Industry”, Pedro Suasi, Manager of Balearic Marine Cluster, focuses his intervention on the strengths and weaknesses of employment in the sector, emphasising the need to invest in young talent and to commit to medium- and long-term training strategies; “We cannot limit ourselves to covering immediate staffing needs,” stated Suasi. “We must identify and invest in people with motivation and attitude, even if they require training. If we invest in them, they will become key professionals for our companies in the future”.
In the second session, “Nautical Industry and Employment: A Real and Current Perspective”, Guillermo García, President of Balearic Marine Cluster, highlights the importance of collaboration between public administrations, companies, and training centers to consolidate an effective and sustainable dual training model: “The collaboration between the SOIB, the companies, and, if deemed appropriate, the involvement of the APB is essential to ensure the sector’s growth”.
During his intervention, he shared key data reflecting the Cluster’s impact: over 250 students trained in collaboration with S’Algar, more than 50 participating companies, and € 1.5 million mobilised in grants in 2025 to promote nautical training. Currently, BMC drives training programmes in rigging, sails, carpentry, painting, composites, electronics, and mechanics; essential specialties for the maintenance and repair of leisure boats, yachts, and superyachts.

Balearic Marine Cluster also highlights its excellent collaboration with SOIB, which allows the alignment of real business needs with existing training opportunities, ensuring that education responds to the demands of the labor market.
The Cluster further underscores the importance of its employment board, an active service on its website where job offers from member companies are published daily, helping those interested in working in the nautical industry to access real opportunities and connect directly with companies seeking new professionals.
For its part, the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands reaffirms its commitment to developing nautical talent and expresses its willingness to collaborate actively in boosting the sector’s development, offering its facilities for training or business initiatives such as this conference, which help to showcase the potential and growth of the Balearic nautical industry.
Balearic Marine Cluster emphasises that training and talent are the cornerstones on which the future of the Balearic nautical industry will be built, an industry already established as a strategic driver of employment, innovation, and economic development for the islands.
