Balearic Marine Cluster recommends using this tool before anchoring to raise awareness and promote the conservation of the Posidonia meadows in the Islands

Balearic Marine Cluster has a digital nautical guide that includes over 250 beaches and coves with useful anchoring information, including a Posidonia map created by IBANAT and information on the 8 mooring fields of PortsIB.

For this reason, BMC recommends using this tool before anchoring to be respectful of the environment and natural spaces. The resources it offers include:

  • Posidonia Map: Created by the Balearic Institute of Nature (IBANAT), this map identifies areas of Posidonia to prevent boaters from damaging these meadows when anchoring.
  • Mooring Fields: Information about the 8 mooring fields managed by PortsIB, which facilitate safe and environmentally friendly anchoring.
  • Real-Time Weather Data: Updated information on weather conditions to plan safe navigation.
  • Available Services: Details on the services available at each beach, such as restaurants, restrooms, and other amenities.

Additionally, it explains how, through the Ports IB website, you can reserve one of the 264 anchoring points that will be operational throughout the summer season. This facilitates access to anchoring areas and helps regulate and manage the number of boats in sensitive areas.

The 8 beaches with this service, which are listed in our digital nautical guide on the Balearic Marine Hub platform, are:

  • Mallorca: Cala Blava, San Telmo, and Formentor
  • Menorca: Fornells and Illa de’en Colom // Cala Tamarells Beach
  • Ibiza: Ses Salines
  • Formentera: Caló de s’Oli and S’Espalmador

Protection of Posidonia Posidonia oceanica is a marine plant endemic to the Mediterranean, crucial for marine biodiversity, oxygen production, and protection against coastal erosion. Anchoring on these meadows can cause severe damage, so the use of buoys and adherence to the nautical guide’s instructions is essential for their conservation.
