The session explored competitiveness, growth, business valuation and long-term decision-making.

Balearic Marine Cluster, in collaboration with i-Deal Consulting, held the strategic session “Building Business Value: From Diagnosis to Action” at the Balearic Ports Authority. The event was designed to help nautical companies strengthen their competitiveness and guide their decisions towards long-term value creation.

The Cluster’s president, Guillermo García, opened the session by highlighting the importance of “pausing, analysing and setting a course,” noting that many companies are constrained by day-to-day demands and have little space for strategic planning. This message aligned with the session’s introduction, which stressed the need to move from “putting out fires” to building a solid roadmap.

The session featured technical analysis from Gloria Fernández and Belinda Martínez, consultants at i-Deal Consulting, who examined the relationship between competitiveness and value creation, explaining how factors such as digitalisation, sustainability, quality, human resources and strategy directly influence both a company’s valuation and its attractiveness to potential investors.

The results of the BMC Competitiveness Index were also presented— a tool developed by the Cluster to measure the level of business excellence across key areas such as sustainability, innovation, safety and new markets. In 2025, the programme has already audited 24 companies, generating a sector benchmark that helps identify improvement levers and guide decision-making. The Index audit is completely free for all Cluster member companies, facilitating access to a professional diagnosis and a personalised roadmap for continuous improvement.

One of the most valued blocks of the session was the practical self-assessment, focused on common mistakes in processes such as business sales, financing and company growth— including underestimating succession planning, lack of documentation readiness and unrealistic valuation expectations.

The event concluded with a roundtable featuring Álvaro Hinojosa (Oscar Sierra) and Alejandro Sánchez (Pinmar), who shared their experience in corporate processes, investment, expansion and business transformation. Their insights offered a practical perspective on how to adequately prepare for strategic decisions and navigate key phases in a company’s lifecycle.

Balearic Marine Cluster will continue supporting member companies through its Technical Office, which has benefited from the strategic reinforcement of i-Deal Consulting since September, and by offering members a first free strategic consultation to assist them in internal organisation, growth and value creation processes.
