Pedro Suasi highlighted the Balearic Islands as a prime nautical destination during a session on the recreational boating sector held in Barcelona, taking advantage of the exceptional setting of the America’s Cup with Team NZ.
This Tuesday, Balearic Marine Cluster presented the advantages of the nautical sector in the Balearic Islands to ANEN, the New Zealand Marine Industry Association, and over 20 New Zealand companies, showcasing the islands as a strategic hub for maintenance, repair, and refit in the Mediterranean.
Pedro Suasi, manager of Balearic Marine Cluster, attended the session in Barcelona thanks to the collaboration between Marina Port Vell and MB92 Barcelona, also leveraging the exceptional context of the America’s Cup with Team NZ.
During the event, Suasi had the opportunity to present the latest sector report from 2023, highlighting that the nautical sector in the Balearic Islands generates over 1 billion euros annually, accounting for 3.1% of the region’s GDP, and employs a total of 5,145 workers (1% of the islands’ total workforce).
Suasi, who described the session as being of “great interest” to Balearic Marine Cluster, expressed his gratitude to the General Manager of Marina Port Vell, Ignacio Erroz, whose presentation focused on the impact of the America’s Cup on the superyacht sector in Barcelona. Erroz detailed how this event is boosting economic activity and increasing demand for specialized services for large yacht users in the city.
