The General Directorate for Innovation of the Balearic Islands has launched the Innobal Innovative SME seal, a regional recognition of innovative Balearic SMEs.

This certification is completely free of charge and can be requested by all those companies that meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • SMEs registered in the register of innovative companies of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
  • SMEs that have received public funding in the last three years in competitive calls for innovation and technology of the Government of the Balearic Islands.
  • SMEs that have received public funding in the last three years, without having suffered any revocation for incorrect or insufficient execution of the financed activity, through:
    • Public calls within the framework of the VI Plan Nacional de Investigación Científica, Desarrollo e Innovación Tecnológica or Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación. 
    • Grants for R&D&I projects from the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial.
    • Calls of the Horizon 2020 or Horizon Europe Programme of the European Union.
  • SMEs that have their own patent in operation in a period not exceeding five years prior to the exercise of the right to the bonus.
  • SMEs that have obtained, in the last three years, a positive linked reasoned report for the purposes of applying the deduction mentioned in Article 35 of the revised text of the Corporate Income Tax Act.
  • SMEs that have one of the following official certifications recognised by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness:
    • Young Innovative Company (*JEI), according to AENOR Specification EA0043.
    • Small or Micro Innovative Company, according to AENOR Specification EA0047.
    • Certification in accordance with UNE 166.002 “R&D&I management systems”.
  • SMEs that have submitted a report on the basis of Annex 4 of the AEI Decree and that have been positively assessed by the Evaluation Commission.

Benefits of the seal

Among the benefits that this seal grants to companies are:

  • Priority access to be a beneficiary of regional public aid.
  • Use of the INNOBAL seal for commercial and advertising purposes.
  • Priority access to Innovative Public Procurement and other public procurement procedures.
  • Registration in the regional database of innovative SMEs and publication of the data in the map/list of innovation resources.  

How to apply for the INNOBAL seal?

The application for the seal is made electronically and does not entail any cost for the applicant company.

To do so, the following documentation must be submitted via this link: Sol·licitud de certificat de reconeixement INNOBAL (PIME Innovadora de les Illes Balears) (caib.es)

  • Modelo de solicitud, correctly completed and signed by the person in charge of the company.
  • Proof of compliance with any of the requirements. 

Once the documentation has been reviewed and approved by the Technical Service of the Directorate-General for Research, Innovation, and Digital Transformation, the applicant will be sent a certificate of recognition as an innovative SME, which will be valid for three years (renewable).
