The students are undergoing this training at the S’Algar Training Center and will later complete an internship period in nautical sector companies in the Balearic Islands.

A total of 21 students have begun the Dual Training course this March to obtain the Level 1 Professional Certificate in system maintenance, focused on mechanics and electronics. This initiative has been promoted by Balearic Marine Cluster.

These students were selected through a process in which nearly 300 people registered, and more than 100 interviews were conducted. Their training will be based on the following content:

  • Level C Professional Certificate: Auxiliary maintenance operations for systems and equipment of sports and recreational boats (390 hours).

  • Creation and Management of Personal Branding and Social Media for Job Searching (35 hours).

  • Ergonomics: Risk Factor Analysis (45 hours).

  • Training in Competencies and Personal Skills for Work (36 hours).

  • Basic Nautical English (100 hours).

  • Cleaning of Sports and Recreational Boats (40 hours).

This 12-month training program (646 hours of training + internships) is paid for students and is part of the project launched by Balearic Marine Cluster in 2025 under the “SOIB Training in Alternating Sectors and Hard-to-Fill Positions” call.

Nearly 100 Students Enrolled in Four Training Courses

It is worth noting that in 2025, nearly 100 students from the Balearic Islands are expected to attend classes at the S’Algar Training Center and work with different companies in the region’s nautical sector. This initiative aims to train specialists in one of the strategic sectors of the Balearic Islands.

Specifically, in collaboration with the S’Algar Training Center, Balearic Marine Cluster has launched the following Dual Training programs in addition to the Level 1 Professional Certification in System Maintenance (Mechanics and Electronics):

  • Level 1 Professional Certification in Surface Maintenance and Nautical Carpentry

  • Level 2 Professional Certification in Rigging and Sailmaking

  • Level 2 Professional Certification in Nautical Painting

Balearic Marine Cluster aims to continue expanding this training program to cover all nautical areas within the Transport and Vehicle Maintenance category.

If a company wishes to participate in the Dual Training program of Balearic Marine Cluster, it will receive a subsidy covering 100% of the salary costs derived from the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI), proportional to the students’ working hours. Additionally, companies may receive an increase of up to 25% for Level 2 certificates if their Collective Agreement is higher and up to a 10% increase for Level 1 certificates.

Moreover, the subsidy will cover 100% of social security costs, and each hired student will receive €60 per month for tutoring throughout the 12-month alternating training contract.

Furthermore, Balearic Marine Cluster is committed to ensuring that once the dual training contract ends, students will have the opportunity to be employed by the same company or another in the sector.
