STRATEGY TO BOOST THE BLUE ECONOMY IN THE BALEARIC ISLANDS

PROJECT INFORMATION:

The Strategic Investment Planning and Coordination Office and the Department of European Funds, University and Culture have collaborated in the launch of the strategy called E08 Blue Economy for the Mediterranean in the Balearic Islands.

The main objective of this initiative is to promote the sustainable development of various economic sectors related to the sea, consolidating the islands’ leading position in research and innovation in marine sciences and positioning them as a blue territory of international reference.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. To consolidate the leading position of the Balearic Islands in research and innovation in marine sciences.
  2. To position our islands as a blue territory of international reference.
  3. To promote the sustainable growth of the different economic sectors related to the sea, increasing the productivity and added value of their activities.
  4. To integrate the blue economy as an essential part of the diversification of the islands’ economic model.

METHODOLOGY:

The project involves experts from various sectors, including the manager of the Balearic Marine Cluster, Pedro Suasi.

E08 Blue Economy for the Mediterranean is divided into two main blocks:

Biodiversity and Marine Sciences:

  • Marine Pole.
  • Anchoring control plan on the coast of the islands of Formentera.
  • Project for the conservation of terrestrial and marine biodiversity.

Decarbonization of the Sea:

  • Alcudia Tech Mar.
  • Gran Blau.
  • Alternative marine mobility.
  • Decarbonisation of the maritime connection between Ibiza and Formentera.
