In a workshop organized together with the Cambra de Comerç de Mallorca, the various possibilities that AI can offer to the nautical sector to enhance its efficiency and productivity were discussed

Balearic Marine Cluster, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Mallorca, held a training workshop on Wednesday, June 19th, about the possibilities, uses, and opportunities that Artificial Intelligence can bring to the nautical sector in the Balearic Islands.

The advent of AI poses significant challenges for companies and professionals worldwide, and the nautical sector has much to contribute and say, being an area known for its economic relevance and its contribution to tourism and the local industry.

Thanks to the information shared by Nunsys, the company responsible for conducting the workshop, the more than 20 attendees were able to observe and learn how this technology encompasses everything from the machine learning of the company’s operations to predictive analysis in any field, offering innovative tools to optimize resources, improve efficiency, and increase the profitability of nautical companies and marinas.

In this context, it was observed how machine learning algorithms can analyze large amounts of operational data to identify patterns and areas for improvement. For instance, AI can predict the demand for materials and spare parts, thus optimizing inventory and reducing costs. Additionally, it can enhance the planning and scheduling of repairs and maintenance, minimizing downtime and increasing operational efficiency.

In the Refit sector, which deals with the renewal and modernization of boats, AI can offer even more precise and personalized services. Thanks to existing tools and those that are still emerging, AI algorithms are already capable of analyzing historical databases and predicting when a boat is likely to need maintenance or specific repairs. This allows companies to anticipate problems and avoid costly failures while also helping improve customer satisfaction by providing proactive and timely services. Moreover, AI can help optimize the refit processes themselves, ensuring that projects are completed within the set budget and timeline.

Regarding the management and optimization of berths, AI can revolutionize this aspect through advanced management systems that predict berth occupancy based on historical data and current trends. These predictions can help, for example, optimize space allocation in marinas, thus maximizing the utilization of their facilities. Additionally, AI systems can facilitate real-time berth reservation and management, improving the user experience and increasing profitability. Furthermore, in terms of marina occupancy forecasting, AI can use predictive models to provide accurate estimates about future occupancy, allowing companies to make informed decisions about pricing and promotions.

Artificial Intelligence is poised to be a driving force for change in the Balearic nautical sector, and the Balearic Marine Cluster will continue to explore its utility. Its capacity to optimize resources, predict needs, and improve berth management offers a significant competitive advantage to those companies that venture to use it. As companies and marinas adopt these technologies, they will not only see improvements in efficiency and profitability but also be better prepared to face future challenges and seize new opportunities in the dynamic nautical environment.
